Essential lists
An essential item is a non-foods item that you will need to survive from day-to-day. Tools, clothing, fuel, and such are considered essential to survival. These are generally broken down into categories.
You need to first make a list of what you definitely need for immediate survival. A hand saw is a necessary item, but a gas run power saw, although it would be nice to have, is a luxury item as it requires fuel and extra parts. Essential items would include: Hammer, nails, saw, screwdrivers, screws, etc.
Think of all the repairs and things you would use in day-to-day life that do not take electricity or fuel to operate.
Clothing, shoes, winter gear, alternative shelter are also considered essential items. First-aid kits, medical supples, sanitation implements are also included.
The only way to start is to begin making lists. Include the entire family. By making them a part of the project, it becomes fun and brings the family together in a joint effort.
